When I couldn’t get my usual mascara in Boots recently, I decided to try out the latest in Maybelline’s Lash Sensational range, the Lash Sensational Luscious. I thought I’d review it for you after trying it a few times.
The version I tried was the waterproof version and I haven’t tried the standard version. Honestly, I won’t be trying it, because the one I have is so hard to work with and I don’t want to waste any more money. The Lash Sensational Luscious mascara is priced at £8.99 in Boots and Superdrug, and at that price I would expect a functional mascara that enhances my lashes and doesn’t flake or smudge through the day. That’s not what I got. Not even close.
Formula: I’m not a fan of really wet mascara formulas, but this was too far the other way. Dry and sticky, it’s the clumpiest mascara I’ve ever tried. My lashes ended up stuck together with clumps of product all over (and I had wiped off excess product from the wand before applying!). It then dried too quickly for me to effectively comb out the gross mess.
Wand: The main reason I chose this mascara was that the wand looked like it would do a good job of separating and defining my lashes. However, I think that the brush is a bit too chunky for that, and combined with the gloopy formula, the whole thing is quite useless.
Longevity: Flakes. Everywhere. I was picking black clumps off my eyelids, cheeks, and even my nose all day long. I don’t recall ever having a mascara that flaked this much.
Removal: After having such trouble with flaking through the day, I thought it might at least be easy to remove, but no luck there either. Maybe because it clumped onto my lashes so thickly, but it was a pain to remove. My oil cleanser (currently Kose Softymo Deep) usually makes quick work of all my makeup, including waterproof, but this mascara needed a lot of soaking and massaging with the oil in order to fully remove it.
In conclusion, don’t waste your money on this! It has no redeeming features at all in my opinion. I like a lot of Maybelline products, but this one is definitely a dud.
I hope this review has been helpful! It’s a shame it was so negative. Have you tried this mascara or the non-waterproof version? Did you like it more than I did? I’d love to hear what your favourite mascaras are too!
